Thomas Merton says ‘let it go, let it all go.’ -In time we discover the foolishness and inadequacy of our efforts before God. But he is not a stern judge. There is nothing to conceal.
Will the world find that I am a fool? That is already known. Will my efforts fall short? That is a given. Yet I must write and go on. This is God’s stern teaching, in order to wean me away from ego. It is rather like making love, which offends our dignity, or where we think it lies. But in that congress there is truth beyond knowing. I see clearly, though mistaken. -So I need to enter the world with palms up. God will give what She will give. That is the lesson.
