The skeleton stands for our review in a museum, the jaws now harmless. After a million years, the hunger, lust and greed comes to this: in the fossilization process the minerals in the bones were replaced atom by atom to become more durable, creating an image of either heaven or hell. Given time do we become fixed in our limitations or give them up bit by bit to be fit for eternity?
Bone strengthens along the lines of stress. What is left behind is a calculus of weight and gravity.-We ask every day, what will remain of our lives. What are the bones? What I fear is that what will be left will be only the generalized, the gravitational: a house full of furniture, a trunk of objects, and papers, few resentments among my survivors. A record of habits and fears fixed in time.
